Hey - everyone needs to know that if the sirens shut off it does NOT mean you’re clear. Check the NWS / Weather Apps to confirm if the warnings have been cancelled or expired. The sirens are often just for initial alerts, and every town operates them differently.

It’s how we roll in the Midwest. We are standing on our front porch or back deck to watch the storm.

If the sky is not green, it’s eery quiet, and it smells like ozone and dirt, Midwest girlies are on their porches. Sirens mean nothing. 😂

What you’re supposed to do in the Midwest when the sirens go off is go stand on the front porch to “just take a quick look” 🤷🏻♀️

no joke, sirens do not consistently sound throughout the duration of the tornado. they sound for awhile then stop, but that doesn't mean the danger is over. you should turn on the TV and take cover if necessary.

I'm Canadian. I've never heard a siren except for emergency vehicles

For the true Midwest experience, you have to take the Portillo’s outside and watch the storm come in. But seriously, if the sirens go off again, go to the basement. If there’s no basement, ground floor to an interior hallway with no windows.

😂😂 In Missouri the sirens go off and we stand on the porch "where's the Nader, I wanna see"

They stop because they overheat after 5 minutes. They don’t stop because the threat is over. They do not run the whole time. So stay safe and watch a LIVE weather station for updates.

How did I miss that you are in Illinois?!?? I’m so close to Naperville. Sorry you are having to be here during a time of intense weather. This isn’t unusual for us, but it doesn’t make it fun! There was a tornado that touched down about 40 minutes from where you are. Welcome to the Midwest! And enjoy that Portillo’s - be sure to get some Lou’s deep dish!
