@c.andersonhealth: If you're spiraling right now, save this. Most "calming techniques" you've heard before don't work in a real spiral because they were built for general anxiety, not for the activated nervous system that takes over when your body has decided you're in danger. These 6 work because they target different mechanisms. #stillmoving #nervoussystemregulation #vagusnerve #emdr #spiralinterrupts
Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap is PERFECT for humming. It helps so much when I have a POTS flare up.

I used to have severe PTSD after a traumatic experience. It resurfaces time to time from specific triggers. But my therapist taught me how to break the mental spiral by grounding myself in the present. If this happens to you and you are reliving your trauma in your mind and can’t break free, place your bare feet on the ground, look around whatever room you are in and name everything around you out loud. It’s places you back into the present. If you still continue to spiral in your trauma choose one of the happiest moments in your life, do the process again and then immediately start reliving your happiest moment while taking slow deep breathes, this lowers your cortisol levels to break the cycle.

For anyone who feels overwhelmed by life and doesn't really know where that feeling is coming from, Clara Hartley's anxiety quiz might be worth trying. It could help you notice patterns that are easy to miss on your own.

If you are prone to disassociate, I add DANCING. Alone in your room just put on music and move your body for an hour a day.
