📌 FUEL WILL HUMBLE YOU. PERIOD. ⛽️ That load might look great on the board until you actually calculate what you’re putting in the tank. Figure out your fuel cost before you take the load, and don’t forget the miles you’re driving empty. Diesel goes up, rates don’t always follow. Know what you can afford to run for and don’t let a big gross number fool you. 📌 MAINTENANCE NEEDS ITS OWN BUDGET 🛠️ Don’t treat maintenance like a surprise expense because it’s coming whether you like it or not. Put money aside every week for the truck and trailer. Tires, brakes, oil changes, straps, repairs… eventually something expensive WILL break. It’s a lot easier to swallow a repair bill when you’ve already been saving for it. 📌 LEARN HOS BEFORE YOU START RUNNING ⏰ Learn your clock before you’re sitting there with a booked load trying to figure out if you have enough hours to deliver it. Your available hours should be part of your decision every time you book. Know what you can legally get done that day and don’t book yourself into a situation that only works if you bend the rules. 📌 KNOW YOUR INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS 💼 Don’t just get a policy and assume you’re good. Know exactly what your insurance covers, how much cargo coverage you have, your deductible, and what your brokers require. You’re hauling other people’s vehicles, sometimes three very expensive ones at once. Make sure the value sitting on your trailer isn’t more than what you’re actually covered for. And cheaper insurance isn’t necessarily cheaper when it’s time to file a claim. Read what you’re paying for. 📌 YOU WON’T GET PAID RIGHT AWAY.💰 This is a big one nobody talks about enough. For most of our loads, we’re waiting around 6 weeks after delivery to actually see that money. Meanwhile, you’re still paying for diesel, insurance, truck and trailer payments, maintenance and the next several weeks of loads out of your own pocket. Seeing a good number in accounts receivable is great, but money owed to you isn’t money you can spend yet. Make sure you have enough cash flow to keep the wheels moving while you wait. 📌 QUICK PAY ISN’T FREE MONEY.💸 Don’t confuse “quick pay” with getting paid early for free. You’re essentially paying a fee to access money you’ve already earned sooner. A couple percent on one load might not seem like much, but when you’re doing it load after load, those fees add up fast. Sometimes paying for quick pay makes sense for cash flow, just make sure you’re factoring that fee into the load before deciding what you actually made.#trucktok #owneroperator #carhauling #business #carhauler
