@dr.adam.dell: Do you have a lifestyle that could be characterized by caring for others? It costs to care, but the quieter truth is that it costs not to care too. Loving those around you doesn't mean that you can't love yourself. Rather, it's about where the focus of your heart is. Do you sacrifice and serve or do you self-protect and self-promote? Are you thoughtful of others or self-centered? It's a fact that everyone loves someone or something. It's wise to reflect on where your heart is pointed, because that determines how you'll live. Have you decided that caring about others isn't for you? Perhaps you wouldn't admit it outloud, but you care mostly about yourself. Perhaps you were raised in a home where love wasn't present and you had to always fend for yourself or perhaps you've been terribly hurt and have gone into protection mode. The thing about taking care of only you is that all your love and care is directed at yourself. It's isolating because it's always all about you: your comfort, wants, status, agenda, ambition, and happiness. Living in such a way causes discord, disunity, and destroys relationships. It's an unbecoming and ugly way to live. Conversely, to care for others means you have to be inconvenienced. It costs you time, energy, resources, and maybe even comfort. The strength and greatness of your love is found in your willingness to sacrifice. While that might be painful, you never lose when you love. You deceive yourself in thinking so. The way of love is the most excellent way because it's life giving. Caring and loving comes in many different ways. Being patient with someone, gives them room to grow. Extending forgiveness unites hearts. Providing for someone in financial need, lifts another up. Being merciful, when you could be vindictive, wins a friend. You cannot destroy love; it's imperishable. Love and you'll discover it's a glory to love. Your life is more peaceful and joyful. Love is an adornment that makes you beautiful to others.
