I remember back in college thinking there was no way weed would ever be legal in my lifetime. Less than 10 years later it was.

My grandfather was a communist. He went from eating literal weeds after the war to a high ranking party member, he stayed true to his beliefs and resisted the corruption that overtook the party as the 90s were nearing. I cannot imagine the dissapointment he must have felt when laissez faire capitalism took over...

i tell folks it's the most depressing thing ever. you learn about all the systemic problems, you understand how easy it is to fix those problems, but then you realize how powerless we are to actually bring those fixes

Idk I became a communist because I want the abolition of capitalism in my life time, at least in America anyway. Whenever we get to “true communism” isn’t nearly as important as replacing capitalism with a human centric system rather than a profit centered one. I’m very hopeful of that happening before in my lifetime

Marx himself very explicitly believed that the Revolution he was discussing- particularly in Das Capital- would not be a sudden, literally violent overthrow of capitalism but a slow social evolution that would take generations or centuries that the overthrow of capital would be the final stage of. this is REALLY important to understand bc clearly the 20th century revolutionaries in Russia and China didn't understand it.

You’re right in essence. Though conversely, the concept of punctuated equilibrium from evolutionary biology is something I like to apply to society and capitalism’s development. Long periods where there’s not a lot of hope, followed but drastic and sudden change and development. Who knows what could occur in an 80 period in the near future

we cannot do all the work ourselves, we may not see capital's end in our lifetimes, but we will carry on anyway. every drop of effort staves off our eradication.
