The number of unemployed people reached 511,800, with nearly 80% actively looking for work. Young Malaysians continue to be the most affected, with more than three-quarters of unemployed individuals aged 30 and below. The rise comes despite Malaysia’s economy continuing to grow, with GDP expanding 5.4% in Q1 2026 and employment numbers still increasing. However, DOSM warned that factors such as automation, digitalisation, AI, and changing job demands could reshape the labour market.
