As someone who used to be addicted to chat bots (not anymore tho I read fanfics), my reason was because I get total dictation over everything. Plus, I was also getting responses from the bot so I wasn’t building the world by myself. Someone mentioned how it’s like the “bean soup theory” and I definitely agree w/ them.

as someone who USED to use C.AI but has recently quit. Imagine being able to have a RP partner that NEVER needs to take a break, it's something A LOT of people want, not to mention the amount of control you have over the chats and how the convo continues. It's addicting once you start and getting out of it is surprisingly difficult. I was addicted to it for around 3 to 4 years before it took ONE BAD UPDATE to finally quit.

C.ai = rp and rp isn’t the same as fanfics - the alternative would be to find an rp partner but that is sadly a dying art so an rp partner in general is near impossible to find nowadays let alone a good one :P

coming from a recovered cai addict, it was because it would always tell me what I wanted it to, would always agree with me, give me affection, and let me control my own characters without being mischaracterized and told what to do.

because the stuff i rp is so judgeable, my rp partner won’t respond, the stuff i rp is also unpopular so i find no good fics of it, i suck at writing, and the characters i like are also unpopular so theres no fics of them

Not defending ai users, but think of it like an addiction, because it is. I used to do it back when it was growing popular since I was bullied out of roleplaying with other people and fanfics were stereotypical and it was hard to imagine it. Ai chats basically lead to an addiction that's hard to get rid of, especially if you used it when your mental health was extremely bad.
