Hi! I went to a wilderness camp in 2013 in the middle of winter in Minnesota! We slept and hiked in below freezing temperatures. I’m glad to say the one I went to is also permanently closed down

As a mom I would recognize immediately my kids fake smile and the eyes never lie. I’m too much of a helicopter parent to ever entrust sending my kid away to begin with.

These places are horrible. I worked for one very briefly, and left pretty quickly after getting on the phone with a kid’s parents, telling them they weren’t safe and to come get them. Proud of you for the work you’re doing, glad you’re here. ❤️

I used to follow a guy named Joe who wrote about his experiences at the Elan School, a similar program, And I was always shocked and saddened about how his parents never admitted or believed him about how bad it was. how did your parents react after you got out and told them what it was like, if you're willing to share?

Outback Wilderness Therapy in 2011 in Utah for 3 months. July, August, September in 105+ degree weather, hiking every day, and enduring mandatory “solo” time, miles away from my group 😭 my parents sent me as a 17 year old. I’m so sorry for what you experienced 🥺 So much of what you wrote was EXACTLY my experience.

My parents tried to send me to a troubled teen place in Texas. I opted to be fostered instead. Wasn't good in foster care but we didn't have many choices then. I'm sorry you went through this love 🥹🖖🏼🤍🫶🏼
