@tic_tac_mangaeu: **THE HEARTBREAKING TRUTH ABOUT JAPANESE TOURISM!** 💔 If you think every single local in Japan is celebrating the massive tourism boom right now you are missing a deeply hidden reality! Many people online clickbait the idea that over tourism is destroying our country but the actual truth is much more complicated. I recently almost got into a massive argument with a good friend who works at an auto parts factory when he confessed that he absolutely cannot appreciate tourists right now. At first I wanted to defend the visitors because I know firsthand that tourism is literally resurrecting our historical cities. But then he shared a painfully honest reality. He cannot stand watching tourists enjoy endless plates of amazing Japanese food while his own family is struggling so badly that they are forced to mix cheap wheat into their meals or eat 5 year old reserve stockpile rice just to survive. His daily struggle has absolutely nothing to do with the tourists themselves. But feeling his incredible frustration completely strengthened my ultimate belief. We desperately need new systems in place right now so that everyday hardworking citizens can directly benefit from the massive economic boost that global interest in our culture brings! Instead of pointing fingers at visitors or spreading negativity let us figure out how to truly support these local communities together side by side. What do you think is the absolute best way for everyday citizens to actually feel the benefits of tourism? Let me know down in the comments below and let us keep discovering the true Japan together👇 #japan #japanese #culture #japantravel #japantourism
Sounds more like a government issue, but bro takes it out on tourists 😂😂😂

How about you make a video on the entire rice farming quotas and rules and the politics behind it in Japan and let us know how it goes?

That hurts my heart ♥️I’m visiting Japan soon during summer homeschool for my kids and we’re staying in a small local apartment so they can experience everyday life for other cultures and not just the tourist side. I think it’s so important to understand how life is in other places so they can appreciate cultural differences instead of sticking to the nationalist ideals that public schools teach in America

So how are tourists responsible for Japans economic problems?

As far as I know, one of the biggest issues with Japanese is economy is simple: quite rapid implementation of innovations and very high personal efficiency of workers simply can't cover enormous decline of work force due to decades of low fertility. Usual answer - labour migrants. But till recently it was definitely rejected. So answer to struggles of your friend is actually totally opposite

So he was upset that people on holiday are splurging on getting good food while he is struggling to afford basic necessities?
I really don't see how there's a direct correlation, if anything it's the opposite as tourism opens up more employment so people can actually have a job to afford the necessities.

Unfortunately we have a similar problem here in America right now where a lot of people can't afford the delicacy foods and have to live off of cheap grains and... well I would say fruits and vegetables but even THOSE are expensive right now. So don't worry, you guys aren't alone in this fight against the market prices.

Locals comparing the average Japanese lifestyle to a tourist is quite funny. Fly to JFK, and go take a look around Jamaica queens where you land and reevaluate.

Oh I totally understand! I love visiting Japan and hope to live there one day. BUT I also want the Japanese to be able to enjoy their own country the way I get to. The government needs to take care of its people, not in a nationalistic way, but in a basic human compassion way. Japanese citizens should be allowed to enjoy their own country the way I do as a tourist

A lot of people think I must be in a different situation as locals but my household makes a very average Japanese salary in yen... and then we sent a chunk of that abroad to pay those horrendous US student loans! It is literally only the tourists living like that. Many foreign residents also get the struggle.

Over tourism happens in many countries. And in the U.S. there is a growing divide between the working class, who barely scrap by and live paycheck to paycheck...and the mega wealthy. So...we know.

it's easy to assume all tourists have lots of money too. personally we've saved for a long time to visit japan. we eat minimal at home on a budget to splurge a little when we get to Japan. definitely understand seeing others thrive when you have it tough is difficult though.

I get the feeling as a resident in Kyoto especially and get the resentment when you get overcrowded or out priced from many local areas you used to love, but I do think it's quite unfair to blame it on tourists themselves and also sucks a lot when the resentment gets mass applied to all "foreigners," especially with the recent harsh crackdowns on immigration. The problem comes from a lot of structural political and infrustructural issues than it does just regular people on a holiday.

That is sad however, maybe the locals don’t realise that we have saved for years to come to Japan and on holiday we would eat better than our normal day to day lives at home, because a holiday is seen as a treat.

That's not because of foreigners/tourism, that's because you keep choosing bad politicians that keep what started in the 80s when your yen started to sustain the dollar

it's really not the fault of tourists. It's the government. Tourism is probably your last line of defence in income generation for the country, and without it, Japan will be in a more dire situation.
