honestly I think people are missing the point bc they’re judging it as ‘just another alien movie.’ but it’s not really about the aliens….it’s about disclosure itself. like, what happens to religion, government, every institution that’s been telling us ‘trust us’ once that trust gets tested on the biggest scale possible? that’s the actual story. the familiar beats are almost the point…..it’s showing how unprepared we are bc we’ve literally never had to process something like this before. it’s less sci-fi and more a preview of what ‘the next stage’ actually looks like for us as a species

Spoiler Alert! The whole movie was basically a waste because Hugo had the big alien the whole time. All he had to do was interview him live and broadcast that.
