A senior figure in Ukraine’s drone industry told New Scientist (10 June 2026) that a two-year-old test sent ten AI drones into “Terminator mode” on the front line, with no video feed and no operator, and that Russian soldiers were killed. There is no recording, and the deaths were confirmed by sending piloted drones in afterwards, so read it as one account rather than settled fact. Ukraine still bans AI making the final kill decision, and the people building these systems are openly lobbying to loosen that rule.
