@crimeinthermorning: Actor James Handy Fatally Stabbed by Girlfriend's Son in Tarzana James Handy, the 81-year-old actor known for his roles in films like "Top Gun: Maverick," "Jumanji," "Logan" and "Arachnophobia," was fatally stabbed Wednesday morning at a home in Tarzana, according to Los Angeles police. The veteran character actor, who amassed more than 150 acting credits throughout his five-decade career, was killed by his girlfriend's son, 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, who lived with his mother at the Erwin Street residence where the incident occurred. The bizarre incident began around 9:30 a.m. when authorities received a disturbing 911 call. "I am the son of man. I just killed the man of sin," the caller told dispatchers. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Handy unconscious in the front yard with a stab wound to his chest. Despite being transported by paramedics to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead. In a strange turn of events, Gledhill reportedly flagged down responding officers and told them, "he was the one they were looking for," according to police statements. Gledhill was arrested on suspicion of murder and booked at Van Nuys Jail with bail set at $2 million. The Los Angeles Police Department has indicated they believe this was "an isolated incident and there appears to be no danger to the public at this time." Detectives are continuing to investigate what led to the fatal stabbing, as no motive has been disclosed. Handy's most recent role was as a bartender named Jimmy in the 2022 blockbuster "Top Gun: Maverick". Throughout his career, he appeared in numerous popular films including "The Verdict," "K-9," "The Rocketeer," and "Unbreakable." On television, he made guest appearances on dozens of shows, including "NYPD Blue," "Criminal Minds," "CSI: NY," "The West Wing," "Law & Order," and "9-1-1." His representatives confirmed his death to multiple media outlets, with his agent Pam Ellis-Evenas stating, "With great sadness I can confirm that the gentleman who was attacked and killed on Wednesday in Tarzana was the actor James Handy." The LAPD is asking anyone with additional information about this incident to contact the Robbery-Homicide Division, Valley Section.
