The conversation around Trinidad and Tobago’s influence on Caribbean music is picking up again and this time it’s Grammy-winning Jamaican reggae artist Keznamdi adding his perspective 🇹🇹🎧 In a recent interview on the Caribbean Corna Podcast, Keznamdi reflected on what he learned after digging deeper into the region’s musical history, and he was very clear about Trinidad’s impact. He said, “Trinidad was actually the root, the real richness of where music come from inna the Caribbean. It was them wey have the musicality and the bands…” He went on to explain that his research completely shifted his understanding, adding that he never realised “how rich the music was and is in Trinidad and how ancient it is.” Keznamdi also described Trinidad as “the mecca of music in the Caribbean,” saying that much of what later developed in Jamaica was built on musical foundations that already existed in Trinidad. His comments echo a wider regional discussion that has been building, especially around Calypso’s influence on Reggae and how Caribbean music evolved across islands, with Trinidad often positioned at the centre of that early sound and structure 🎶🔥 Once again, a respected Jamaican artist is pointing back to the same place when tracing Caribbean music roots… Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 So we have to ask - is Trinidad and Tobago getting the recognition it deserves for its role in shaping Caribbean music? 👀 Let us know below 👇🏽 Real good TT music history vibez! #realgoodvibeztt #trinidadandtobago #caribbeanmusic #musichistory #realgoodvibezmedia
