License plate frames are legal in Texas, but only if they do not obstruct or cover any letters, numbers, or the name of the state. Frames that obscure the "Texas," "Lone Star State," or any part of the alphanumeric plate number violate state law.

Yeah they just changed this law (iirc) a few years ago so you cannot cover the word Texas.
