There’s only 1 choice. Move on with grief. Choosing to stay in the painting is just prolonging a life that wouldn’t have ever existed with out the painting. All the lives in the painting are not real people and would never have existed until the painting. Time to move on and let the cycle of grief take hold.

I love it when people explain their decisions. there is no right answer to which is the 'right' and 'wrong' ending. it's how you perceive the best way to deal with grief. I chose Maelle. I firmly believe that grieving is important. every person grieves in a unique way for a unique situation. with how she feels, and how broken her family is, having the canvas works would help her more than hurt her. Gustave, Sophie, Lune, Sciel. all would support her, but as they know the effect their world has on her, they would ABSOLUTELY push her to leave when the time is right. where as Aline, she couldn't handle the loss of her son so escaped into a world where he was literally every aspect of it. it's creator. Aline needed to leave. yes. but Maelle needs that love and guidance only those in the canvas provide to heal. in a world where she can articulate what she feels. compared to merely existing outside.

Everyone defending Verso’s ending in the comments like he didn’t lie and manipulate us the entire story purely for his own gain. Not to mention the painted boy is only tired of the conflict, he loves all of his creations, just not the Nevrons that Clea created to haunt him for almost an in canvas century

I think that both choices have pros and cons. That being said, everyone who sits there and goes "Verso choice is the only good choice." Is stuck in the mentality of the painters being the "real" people. What makes a person real? That world is full of beings who were born, grew up, have thoughts and feelings, friends and lovers, and live pretty much the same existence as any other human but with a different environment. Consigning an entire world full of people (because they ARE people) to death is what makes the choice that much more convoluted.
