That's the whole point of play, it's prey practice. The key thing to know is that cats who are genuinely playing have learned to inhibit those tendencies so nobody gets hurt. My cat does it to my boyfriend and then lunges and attacks him. He thinks she hates him, I tell him she absolutely loves him. She wouldn’t be chirping and showing him her belly if she didn’t😂😂

My go-to indicator is that play = taking breaks. In this clip when the cat flops over and they stare at each other for a moment, that’s a break

How do you teach your cat to understand play? My boy cat thinks my girl cat wants to play with him when shes hissing and growling. He doesnt pick up on those cues and we have to separate them so he doesnt invade her space like that. He seems totally oblivious to any social cues from other cats
