I can’t find anything that supports this man’s claim about not being penalized for taking out 10k for a home purchase. Maybe from an IRA but not a 401k

I just lost my job. I got over 120k in my 401k. Do you think its a good idea to take it all out and pay most of my mortgage. I owe close to 150k on my mortgage with 4% Interest.

You can borrow up to $50k from your 401k and pay it off 10 to 15 years depending on plan. Interest is charged but your charging yourself so principal plus interest all go back into plan. It’s an excellent strategy houses are an investment

10k isn’t going to do anything to reduce the cost of a home. If you take out more you pay a 10% penalty plus taxes, not maybe you will, and you will loose out on years of compounding interest. Do not do this. Rent and retire early
