@balboa.production: Before Rocky became a massive success, Sylvester Stallone was completely broke, with only a few dollars in his bank account and a pregnant wife to support. He wrote the screenplay for Rocky in just three and a half days, inspired by a boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner. When he pitched the script to Hollywood producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff, they absolutely loved it and offered him $350,000 for the rights to the script—a fortune for Stallone at the time. However, there was a major catch: the studio wanted a famous, established star like Robert Redford, Burt Reynolds, or James Caan to play Rocky Balboa. They did not want the unknown Stallone in the lead role. Despite being flat broke and desperately needing the money, Stallone firmly refused to sell the script unless he was allowed to star as the main character. He knew that if he sold it and let someone else play the part, he would regret it for the rest of his life. The producers eventually relented, giving him a much smaller budget and a lower salary, but letting him star in the movie. I myself am so grateful that Sly did not sell his script. Apparently one of the candidates to play Rocky was Burt Reynolds and the other candidate was Ryan O’Neal as quoted by Sly himself. I honestly do not think that Rocky would have had near the success that it had without Sylvester Stallone playing Rocky. And another thing that I love about the movie Rocky is that Talia Shire said in an interview that the first Rocky was not just a boxing story, it was a love story and Sylvester himself totally agreed with her about that 👍❤️
