Maybe ask him why instead of getting you the things that you’re asking for specifically, he’s choosing something else? Rather than focus on the price, focus on the fact that there are specific things being pointed out and he’s choosing to look for something similar instead of the actual gift. Lead with curiosity and an eagerness to understand 🤷🏻♀️just a thought

I’m the same with good pastries/danish. For birthday and mother’s day he bought cheap or frozen supermarket ones. When my kids were finally old enough to weigh in I made sure they knew. Play the long game

I understand. I don't want to generalize my way of thinking, but in my experience I do spend ALSO accordingly to how much I care. Mind, I appreciate the smallest act like getting a single candy, or a specific flower in a field, or a post-it heart felt note. Though I also would be quite often ok in spending my money on people I care and appreciate, again, ALSO as a way of showing them the care and "proportion", lets say. As much as the opposite... Not being *systematically* cheap all the time with respect to others. Then, different people different logics.
