how does one even know they’re in/out of a spiral? i ruminate everyday and have been ruminating as far back as i can remember.

It’s always there but it certainly intensifies around my cycle. This last one has been the worst, it’s debilitating 😏

My brain constantly finds something new to obsess over every day. It tells me to take pictures of food before and after eating, take pictures of cars and people because I’ll never see them again, and save or record videos, conversations and moments because I’ll never get them back. If I don’t do what my brain tells me, I get severe anxiety and my brain gets stuck on it for hours. I get obsessed with things I can’t remember, like the name of a TV advert or exactly what someone said in a conversation, and I wish I had screen-recorded conversations or saved TikTok videos because I know I can never go back to those moments. My brain tells me to remember everything, even things that happened years ago. It tells me to count everything, including my breaths, bites, words, body movements and every step I take. I feel like I need complete control over everything I do. Sometimes I can’t even move my legs because I’m scared I won’t be able to put them back in the exact same position, and I struggle to pick up a bottle of water because I feel like I won’t be able to put it back exactly where it was. I also avoid moving objects around because I know I won’t be able to put them back in the exact same position they were in before. My brain tells me not to throw things in the bin because I might need them later. I get anxious texting or talking because my brain wants to monitor every word I say, and sometimes the anxiety gets so bad that it’s hard for me to speak. I also get urges to make a face or a noise just to release the tension, and afterwards I cry because I’m scared about what it means. I feel like I can’t cope with uncertainty, my brain never switches off, and it’s always searching for the next thing to obsess over. They want to give me fluoxetine.

Isn’t it funny when something else takes the place of your obsession and suddenly all of your attention goes there and the other thing wasn’t even that serious

I always ruminate and worry, but when I have a horrible spiral and come out of it even for a few minutes it feels like the worlds been lit with fairy lights
