My wife had something incredibly similar. She was hospitalized because of the incredibly high risk pregnancy, knowing the baby would need surgery immediately after delivery, and her boss moved a mandatory meeting up to the day after she was hospitalized and told her since she wasn’t present, she would not qualify for FMLA or her benefits.

My partner was told they were missing a really valuable experience by not attending a conference on the day of my scheduled c-section.

Here is the full submission: “I work in HR. I found out I was pregnant with my 4th child in December. It was a surprise, and I had not intended on having another child. I recently found out that my baby has a possibly fatal/high risk chromosomal abnormality. I’ve been missing a lot of work between my regular obstetrician appointments and my genetic counseling appointments. The VP of the company pulled me aside and told me that, while he can’t legally ‘discourage’ FMLA, that I need to consider my position of authority and see how it looks to those under me because I’ve been missing a lot. He also, in this same conversation, mentioned that FMLA was a loophole, and how I need to consider if all of my absences were necessary, because those under me won’t care if I’m out for legitimate reasons, they just know I’m not at work, and it gives me a negative rep. He then went into a story about how he had a major surgery done and how his wife was at home because it wasn’t “necessary” for her to be there. He stayed 2 nights in the hospital alone because it was inefficient to be there, in essence. And then had her pick him up when they discharged him. I really didn’t understand how that was relevant or why he would mention FMLA being a ‘loophole’ to HR, but it was very uncomfortable.””

Howcome corporations could care less about their new future to be employers when they are useless in the hospital? Haha they should start caring more bout their future labor force.

my friend/ coworker was high risk and had to be admitted thr day she called out (agaon) to stop her going into labor early. management went to her room fo "make sure" and then remind her she had to notify them ASAP when discharged.
