For a detailed step-by-step guide, read below ⬇️ 🛠️Main materials: - 2x4 (frame) -1x4 (frame – used scrap pieces) -¼ in plywood (drywall support) - ¾ in plywood (faux columns) -½ in drywall -PVC archway corner bead -Easy Sand 45 joint compound -Plus 3 joint compound -¼ x 1 ½ in PVC lattice trim -Flexible molding 🛠️How to: Preparation is key! Before starting, I made all my measurements and chose the main materials based on how thick I wanted the structure to be. There are multiple ways to tackle this project, so here’s how I approached it: -Remove any existing crown molding to make space for your frame and the materials you’ll add to it. -Build your frame to size using 2x4s (I used 1x4 scraps for the sides) and attach it securely to the studs. -Cut out your arch curve from ¼ in plywood using a jigsaw. You’ll need one piece for each side of the frame. -Add supports underneath with wood glue and brad nails (I used scrap wood). -Attach the drywall face pieces to the ¼ in plywood and cut out the arch shape. -For the underside drywall piece, score the back every 2 inches, then carefully snap along the scores to match the arch curve. -Add the ¾ in plywood faux columns to give structure and depth to the sides. -Apply flexible PVC corner bead to the arch. I used Easy Sand 45 to secure it but would recommend using staples like I did for the faux columns. -Attach PVC corner bead to the faux columns. -Mud everything with Plus 3 joint compound, thinned with water for smoother application. Be sure to get your coats as smooth as possible! ***Take your time with mudding and sanding—it’s worth the patience!*** -Prime everything with drywall primer. -Use a heat gun to bend the PVC trim to fit your arch. -Add all additional trim and spacers to achieve the look you want. -Caulk, prime, and paint to finish!
