I became curious about these bumps after I started studying foot therapy, and have had these for as long as I can remember🦶🏼 Piezogenic pedal papules (PPP) are common, and most people have no symptoms. It’s largely only a cosmetic issue. Simply put, the bumps are the fat pad getting throught the facial lining of the heel. Causes: 💥 Increased pressure/stress on the feet. 💥 Often associated with connective tissue disorders. 🙋🏼‍♀️ If the condition is painful: - Decrease the on your feet. - Maintaining a healthy weight. - Plastic heel cups. - Orthotics. Some other available treatments: Compression hosiery, creams, electro acupuncture, corticosteroid injections, surgery and betamethasone and bupivacaine injections where Ehlers-Danlos syndrome triggers the condition. The currently available treatments seem to have unsatisfactory effects. 👵🏼 This is not the same as fat pad atrophy, that usually is seen in older people. Fat pad atrophy does often leads to uncomfort, as the pads under your feet get thinner. Many describes it as walking in your bones. This is often associated with aging - but acute trauma, overuse (like excessive jumping, running, or walking on hard surfaces), rheumatological conditions, diabetes and obesity are also mentioned as possible causes. 🤔 My thoughts: Both of the conditions above can be related to stress on our feet. Modern shoes are either stiff or stuffed with lots of cushion, in addition to heel to toe drop👞 This changes our gait, and allow us to walk with longer strides without being immediately punished🚶🏼Too long strides/overstriding leads to more stress on the heel. In additon to this we use more time walking on flat surfaces 🏙️ This prevents varied positioning of our feet and stimulation of the foot - compared to walking barefoot on trails etc.. You have 2-3 cm of natural cushioning under your heel. Use it, but use it gently 👊🏽 Great post from @wlkbrft 🙌 #heelpad #heelpain #podiatry #gait #Running #piezogenicpedalpapules #heel #barefootlife #footstudies #footstrength #foothealth #footinjury #footpain #norway #fotterapeut #løpeglede #utno #health #healthylifestyle #grounding #fotterapeut
