I was forced into a bathroom reno. the house we moved into had the tub expanding foamed underneath. im gonna go back the same way. works well and then I dont have to mix mortar.

I wouldn’t spray foam it, before I redone my bathroom the tub was set with spray foam and it squeaked every time you got in it. I sat the new one with mortar and haven’t had an issue since.

It depends what the manufacturer of the tub calls for. Some call for mortar and you don't secure it to the wall you set it in mortar and that holds it in place. Others call for gluing and screwing
