I am a lawyer and it bothers me SO MUCH when I watch true crime stuff and people get upset when someone asks for a lawyer and say it’s suspicious

I lost my aunt and i didnt shed a single tear. I was very calm about and i thought i was desensitized. It wasnt until two months later that reality finally settled and hit me like a brick. Grief is weird, ppl will behave weirdly.

I always say if someone saw me in an interrogation they would say I did it. I’m a nervous laugher. Like I can be telling you a serious story or being asked serious questions and I might be smiling too much or laughing because I’m super uncomfortable.

I blame Nancy Grace. She ushered in this idea that if you have a hunch, that means you’re correct. So much of true crime podcast sound like Nancy Grace and they were often quote Nancy Grace.

also: most true crime content is a summary of an already solved case, so the creator will focus on the relevant details and leave out the irrelevant details. obviously if you only hear the important information and nothing else you'll think the case was crystal clear and the police are incompetent for not solving ot immidiately

people now think acting weird in general on some level means they were involved or know more… as if grief, trauma, and shock can’t manifest in the weirdest ways as their body and mind try to understand what’s happening. sometimes it can be “easy” to retell what happened or talk about a situation because they’re already doing it, and saying it out loud just changes where they’re hearing the story from

istg. like people process grief differently. i didn’t cry at my granddad’s (whom i loved more than anyone) funeral and i was completely normal until six months later when i just broke down

my friend is studying to become a detective and it me tell you, some many "true crime" fans and podcasters couldn't even do it. like i watch and speculate sometimes but ik im not the detective and that im definitely wrong
