@alyssa.virgil: Looking for insight from other parents who may have experienced something similar with their child. Being told these are simply breath holding spells. Before commenting, please know: 1. These episodes are recurring, and we are already under the care of his pediatrician and a neurologist. 2. We have been advised by his medical team to record the episodes and place him flat on his back when they occur. 3. He has been evaluated multiple times in the ER, including today. We have specifically been told by neurology that calling 911 or going to the ER for these episodes is not necessary unless something changes. 4. His neurologist believes these are breath-holding spells rather than epileptic seizures because they are consistently triggered by him becoming upset, frustrated, scared, or getting hurt. 5. I have asked about anoxic seizures/anoxic convulsions. The neurologist feels this is the most likely explanation for the seizure-like activity that follows the breath holding, but there is currently no treatment or intervention recommended. 6. The episodes usually begin with breath holding and can progress into longer seizure-like events. 7. The seizure-like activity itself can last up to approximately 12 minutes. 8. After the episode, he is often not fully responsive. He may appear to look through us, seem dazed, or not interact normally for a significant period of time before eventually falling asleep. 9. He gets extremely sleepy and will often sleep for 2–4 hours after the episode. Trying to force him to stay awake does not work. 10. When he wakes up, he is completely back to normal and acts as if nothing happened. 11. He has completed an EEG, blood work, and ferritin levels testing, all of which have come back normal. 12. This video was recorded because his pediatrician and neurologist specifically asked us to document these episodes. 13. We are not using social media as a substitute for medical care. He has been evaluated by multiple medical professionals, and we continue to follow up with his healthcare team. 14. We are following the recommendations provided by his pediatrician, neurologist, and the medical teams who have evaluated him. 15. Please be kind. Watching your child go through something like this is terrifying, and we are doing everything recommended by his medical providers. I’m sharing this because I’m hoping to connect with others whose children have experienced something similar. If your child had episodes like this, did they eventually outgrow them? Was there anything that helped? Did you receive any additional testing or answers? #seizure #breathhold #doctor #medical #help

Nurse here. Please get him to a hospital and get that baby under the care of a reputable neurologist. I know the medical system is scary and some Docs don’t take things seriously. But your son needs to be under the care of a neurologist and get the proper diagnostics done. ECG, EEG, ect

as a mom of a child with epilepsy, this is exactly what my child used to do with absence seizures. Eyes are deviated to one side. Lips blue because the rest of his body needs oxygen to his vital organs. The thing about catching these on EEG is it’s hard. So I’m glad you videoed it. When he goes to sleep afterwards seizures take a lot out of the body because his brain is in overdrive. It’s called the postictal stage. I would 100% say this is seizure activity. My child’s went from absences seizures JUST like this to convulsive because she couldn’t get diagnosed. She does have an underlying medical condition that epilepsy is a symptom of. When he does this, be sure to lay him on his left side in case he throws up when he comes out of it. Because sometimes the stomach contents will empty and you don’t want him to aspirate. KEEP RECORDING ANY AND ALL ACTIVITY LIKE THIS because even if you do call 911 by the time they get there, he can and will be out of it. It’s scary to watch. And know there is nothing you can do literally nothing but watch them go through it until they are diagnosed. He needs an emergency seizure med. usually not given until 5 minutes. We give my daughters at 2 minutes because her oxygen literally drops to 0. Not trying to tell you all this to scare you. But the more you know the more you can get help. Keep advocating. Keep pushing. It’s definitely neurological but the actions and the aftermath scream seizure activity

That’s definitely a seizure and you need to call 911 when this happens and have the paramedics bring you guys in to the Emergency Room. Keep documenting every episode, length of the episode and recovery time. Until he is diagnosed, maybe be aware of lights, television, too much stimulation can trigger seizures. For your daughter, create her a job, (getting you wipes and diapers, in a special area, supplies) during these episodes, this way she’ll be distracted and less stressed, if she’s included and you can focus on his needs, without excluding her. Lots of strength and healing thoughts your way. ♥️🥰

As a mom of two kiddos with epilepsy this looks neurological. The rhythmic movements while small, and the eye and mouth movements towards the end are all seizure hallmarks. Keep recording and keep data on what he was doing prior to the event. A 24 hour EEG would be what I would request (demand.)

First off I'm so sorry your little one is going through this. I personally would keep pushing and advocating for my child. It took me 6 years of fighting to get answers for my child's seizures and it turned out to have been epilepsy the entire time. I was dismissed for years and brushed off when I knew it was something more. Trust your gut on this mama and seek a second opinion if you think you need to.

My son had the same thing happen since he was 6 weeks old. They tried to tell me too that he had brue. After a couple weeks at the children’s hospital in neurology department he was put on keppra despite having a “normal eeg”. He has not had an episode since the keppra.

One of my twins had this exact same thing happen to her for two years. We saw neurology, cardiology and the pediatrician. No answers except it was a breath holding spell. She was about 2 years old. Exact same scenario as described in your caption. She has completely outgrown it now and is a happy healthy 10 year old. Good luck momma!
