the best way i’ve ever heard anybody put the core/original part argument is “if you break a plate, what piece would you consider the original?”

One of the biggest reasons I’ve worried I was faking was how it took me into adulthood to realize that I have DID, because my literal thinking autism brain heard that it develops in childhood and was like “well I didn’t realize when I was a kid so I can’t have it” being reminded that sometimes it just takes a while and a lot of therapy to unearth it helps a lot ☺️

I am so glad DID research is finally moving forward. I've been researching the condition extensively and it has helped me so much in understanding and trusting myself. I wish this was more talked about

one thing I didn't know was that amnesia can present as emotional amnesia too, not just "I don't remember anything I did five minutes ago" and I think people misunderstand the amnesia thing a lot.

Also on “hearing alters”. I don’t know if this is the case for others but when I communicate internally, it’s like hearing inside of my head. But it’s not like my ears are literally picking up noise. I’m not hallucinating the voices, it’s just picking out thought patterns, and hearing thoughts that aren’t yours. Still kind of jarring but not as ‘literal’ as maybe auditory hallucinations you’d experience with schizophrenia.

The people think this is fun are only focused on the alters part (which is definitely not fun either). There are other symptoms that qualify it as a dissociative disorder and they are pretty miserable. Not to mention the cptsd on steroids, and personally, we suffer with a lot of physical pain cause our nervous system is so worn out and confused from getting hijacked

People exaggerate symptoms online since you decide what you want to post and I fear people don't want to admit that people with these disorders only show a certain part of their disorder online and so because of that it can look exaggerated. Our system is more overt and so when we post online it can look exaggerated because we just vent we don't show what its like to actually live with.

Thank you for this video I’m really bad at explaining stuff so I really appreciate when other people explain DID in the proper way because it’s a very hard disorder to live with that people really don’t understand even a lot of medical professionals, idk why people act like it’s just having friends in your head it’s really not. One of our alters shaved off our eyebrows days before we got our last health card photo and he genuinely found it funny even though it caused me extreme distress because I had to try and explain to people why in the world I would shave off my eyebrows especially when I knew I had a photo coming up (which is something I would never do) some of our alters would validate everything our abuser would say no matter how untrue it was because they refused to believe we could ever genuinely be loved and treated well. And the dissociation is awful there’s times I don’t recognize myself or people I know and it is such a weird feeling I wish that DID was explained better and people knew more about it because I have had to answer some questions from people that have made me extremely uncomfortable (also i don’t understand why some people think they are entitled to know what trauma caused your DID, I have had multiple people ask me and like for 1. I’m not telling someone that as that could easily be used against us and 2. I don’t even remember most of my childhood so even if I wanted to I don’t even remember everything to tell people what caused it)

We use the term core for the person that has been around the longest and holds the most connection to the body. It may be outdated, but we have yet to find a term that fits their role in our system. It feels wrong to just bring them down to "just an alter" even if it's what they are. Is there a term we just haven't found that fits?

I once calculated how much real rent (donation org thing) i “had to pay” by multiplying our alter count by the recommended donation amount so technically we did have to pay more in rent one time. Lol

@Gio I think these explanations probably work better than mine, but you know you can always ask us how we are feeling and if you have questions related to our disorder muddy
