As an only child, I also think that’s the best decision my parents made for me, is not about companionship only but about quality of life, because I was able to study in better schools, get better resources, travel more, they made sure I wasn’t alone and put me in A TON of camps and activities and that made me eloquent, social, and got to try a bunch of stuff before 15. I know understand is about giving the best life you can provide to your kids, and that sometimes is tied to a budget.

There are definitely pros and cons to being an only child. I had my parents to myself, I had an amazing childhood, and I’ve been incredibly lucky with the opportunities I’ve had. good schools, travel, support, all of it. I’m really grateful for that. But I think the older I get, ive realised my parents are my only family, and thats quite scary. There isn’t a sibling to share the memories with, to navigate adulthood with, or to talk to, someone who’s actually family. I wouldn’t trade my parents or the childhood they gave me, but I do sometimes wish I had a brother or sister- someone who just gets the same family, the same stories, the same people, and who I could do life alongside

There are two types of "only child", evidenced right here in the comments. Those who were loved by their family, I was for example the center of everyone around me, I have no cousins or anything. The other type are the neglected ones and had to learn how to cope alone. She'll be fine :) trust

Only child here. I’m now 23, I have friends all over the world, I live with my friends, never lacked the confidence to go new places and try new things, and am super close with my parents. One narrative that needs to stop being pushed on parents is ‘alone means lonely’ because that could not be further from the truth.

I was an only child for 10 years only bc I begged my parents for a baby brother and that’s what I got, loved being by myself most of the time but it did get lonely some other times, kinda got the best of both worlds ☺️💗

I’m not sure if I want kids but if do get pregnant I want only one too. I mean siblings are the best, my brother is my best friend, but I’m not going through the whole mess and noise.

As an only child, yeah, she's having the time of her life. Reading, playing and etc. is not lonely as an only child because it only helps children enhance their imagination! My parents would spend as much time with me as they could so I never really felt lonely :) I didn't realise I wanted a sibling until I was about 10 but even then I understood that I like being an only child and having a sibling is not a necessity, after all, I can make friends that feel like family and I now call my best friend my sister, so it's alright!
