@strangelyaliv3: Replying to @zanzibar no hate to the commenter obvi but it was a good jumping off point lol #thepianoteacher #michaelhaneke #isabellehuppert #filmanalysis
especially since in the book it explicitly states that hes not upset by what the letter says, but by the fact that she thinks she could even ask him to do that in the first place not because it makes him a bad person to do those things but because the situation emasculates him

i genuinely baffles me how so many people misinterpret this movie....they either romanticize erika's "desires" or see it as a simply perverted and uncomfortable movie that condemns everything that it portrays

The book explains what you did alot more plainly than the film, i think that's why people misunderstand the film so much.

When people are surprised by his character ‘turn’ and didn’t expect it I’m like…have you ever known a man? It’s all about perspective I guess! Incredible film

Your analysis is interesting. I haven’t watched this film I’m trying to open myself up more and be less prudish , but I’m almost prudish in a reactionary way. I can’t stand to see sex on screen because it usually means nothing or worse is just goon material. Your analysis makes me wanna give this movie a try because that sounds interesting.

I was thinking this literally last night!!! I chafed at the two halves, since it seemed like it was a 180 from how the two characters acted throughout the whole movie, but I think that's what entices/intrigues me

this is a really great analysis :) i really dislike it when people say that ‘she got what she wanted in the end’ when that could not be further from the truth! erika is such a layered and complicated character, the ending of the film genuinely left me in tears

i think there’s an expectation surrounded by erotic films, but when a theme is solely pushed as being involved with this perverse woman archetype then fetishisation becomes romanticisation. i think the actual point of the film is being extremely overlooked because of misrepresentation, if you refuse to engage with what it’s actually about then there’s obviously a harmful assumption surrounding sexual transgression.

I love movies that center LONELINESS as well. Some ppl just don’t get it. Also love Blackcoats Daughter for a “horror” film about loneliness in the form of possession!
