One of those lawyers, Sidney Smeets, later became a Member of Parliament for D66. Within weeks, he was gone after multiple young men came forward with allegations of sexually inappropriate behaviour, including claims involving minors. Then, instead of the system fully exposing the political and legal networks around these people, the state seemed far more interested in prosecuting the people asking questions. Activists. Journalists. Whistleblowers. Right-wing commentators. People calling out what they see. Some convicted. Some acquitted. Some dragged through years of legal pressure. So the question is simple: Why does the Dutch state move so aggressively against people criticizing these networks, while so many allegations around the networks themselves seem to stall, disappear or collapse?
