@court_brin: TWIN 101: Twins biting each other & what to do as a parent. Couple notes- consistency matters and keeping yourself calm and absolutely unbothered is key. Toddlers use attention (positive or negative) as currency and they are experts of learning how to get yours. Being as unbothered as possible is your best tool. Second thing to note is adding the additional phrase “we don’t bite” to the end of “out of the mouth” teaches them what they did wrong in the situation with language because once you say that and remove their twin to give them your attention this will connect some dots that what they did is more extreme than trying to eat a toy. Last thing to note is if this is coming from the twin who got bit violating a boundary set by the biter, then do the same thing BUT also say to the one who got bit “that is sister/brother’s toy, they are gonna keep playing with it but you’re gonna come with mama” , the twin who did the biting gets to keep the toy in that case to teach respecting boundaries. See my video on conflict for more info on that situation! I’ll talk about sibling dynamics with twins next time!
