I love how you can still appreciate the old boys! Log hauler here, it’s always fun having big huge logs on the truck, but it feels bad at the same time…

There's a story of a church in England (don't know which one) building their beams from oak, and then planting a grove of the same oaks so that future generations could replace and maintain the building. Always loved that image of looking after those who follow you.

The transformation of the World Trade Center (WTC) site from Ground Zero in 2002 to today's fully realized campus in 2026 is one of the most significant engineering, architectural, and emotional rebuilding projects in modern history. Over 24 years, a 16-acre smoking pit of destruction has been painstakingly rebuilt into a vibrant center for commerce, remembrance, transit, and culture. The site reached a monumental milestone in July 2026, when the final commercial skyscraper, 2 World Trade Center, officially broke ground. [Phase 1: Ground Zero (2002) – The Void and The Cleanup] In 2002, the site was known universally as "Ground Zero." It was a 16-acre raw wound in Lower Manhattan. The Condition: The site was an active recovery and excavation zone surrounded by a grid viewing fence. Fires burned beneath the rubble for months into the year. May 2002 Milestone: On May 30, 2002, recovery crews removed the Last Column—a deeply symbolic piece of WTC steel covered in mementos—marking the official end of the nine-month debris-clearing operation. Over 1.8 million tons of material had been carted away. The Master Plan: In late 2002, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) began selecting rebuilding designs. Architect Daniel Libeskind’s master plan, "Memory Foundations," was chosen to balance commercial rebirth with a dedicated sacred space for remembrance. [Phase 2: The Rebuilding (2006–2023) – A New Skyline] Over the next two decades, the site was systematically constructed layer by layer, transitioning from a construction pit into architectural landmarks. The Memorial & Museum (2011/2014): The twin reflecting pools, designed by Michael Arad and Peter Walker, opened on the 10th anniversary in 2011. They sit directly inside the footprints of the original Twin Towers. The underground National September 11 Museum opened in 2014.One World Trade Center (2014): The center’s anchor, formerly called the Freedom Tower, opened in November 2014. Rising to a highly symbolic 1,776 feet, it stands as the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. [Phase 3: The World Trade Center Campus Today (2026)] Today, the "Ground Zero" moniker has completely faded from daily usage, replaced by a bustling, interconnected commercial and cultural campus. [The Final Piece: 2 World Trade Center] For years, the plot at 200 Greenwich Street sat mostly empty or served as a temporary foundation space. The project faced decades of delays due to a lack of an anchor tenant. ——————————————————————— #freedomtower#wtc#oneworldtradecenter#nycskyline#groundzero
