I live in Detroit and travel to Windsor often for work so this landed on my fyp for a reason! Fun fact: the ambassador bridge has the most traffic out of any other border crossing in North America. Matty Moroun (who also owns massive trucking company central transport) has been lobbying against the bridge so much because he doesn’t want to lose the business as Gordie Howe bridge is planning to charge almost half of what the ambassador bridge charges.

As a former Michigander who lives in NY and travels through Canada often to get back to Detroit, the ambassador bridge is an absolute nightmare if you miss the down times. You can be stuck for hours on that thing if you hit rush hour. The other bridge is built and just sitting there.. The tunnel is fine, but Google maps almost always routes you onto the bridge, and the other bridge is hours north of the ambassador bridge.

rich dude who owns the ambassador bridge probably spent more than it would cost a new bridge at this point, he's been fighting it for like 20+years

We have the tunnel that most people actually use. Still a toll, yes. But the bridge is a lot semis and is always backed up onto I-75. The Gordy Bridge was designed to help with the semi traffic.

as a lifelong Detroiter, this is right in my backyard. wete all so excited about an alternative to the tunnel and the Ambassador. ease the delays and traffic. we want it open. Matty maroon has plenty of money.

Blue Water Bridge is actually busier than the Ambassador now, since it’s like 1/3 the cost for trucks and they drive up here instead. It’s jointly owned like the Gordie Howe will be. The traffic here in a pretty small town can be so bad sometimes, just trying to get home. We have to route around it. Can’t wait for the new bridge.
