In the UK, ISPs generally install surge protectors for coax cables inside the house itself

They do make surge protectors with ethernet ports on them to protect the surge from hitting the computer.

for some reason my ethernet only goes up to 100mbps on the upper floor and 300 while using internet on the down floor and i’ve tried my friends cat 6 ethernet and it hasn’t helped me

All could of been saved by having that grounding rod installed on that coaxial tap. The lighting would of been directed into the ground instead of the house, hell they could of even added a lighting arrestor to the line but none of that was present in the photo
