@memdaypbs: Today, on #WomenVeteransRecognitionDay, we share the story and honor the legacy of US Army nurse and Vietnam veteran, Captain Diane Carlson Evans who we sadly lost on May 20th of this year. Carlson Evans served alongside an estimated 10,000 women in Vietnam during the war. After her service and experience in Vietnam, Carlson Evans envisioned a Memorial that would pay tribute to the service of over 265,000 women who served our country during the Vietnam War. Following a decade-long campaign, Carlson Evans successfully achieved the dedication of the Vietnam Women’s Memorial in 1993, establishing a space of reflection and healing for women veterans of the Vietnam War. As we celebrate Women Veterans Recognition Day, we honor Diane Carlson Evans and all women veterans whose courage, service, and leadership have strengthened our nation.
