@severnhikes: One shot inside a small-town Ohio bar changed a country music legend’s life forever. In 1985, outlaw country star Johnny Paycheck walked into the North High Lounge in Hillsboro, Ohio. Hours later, a man had been shot in the head, Paycheck was on the run, and a case that would make national headlines was underway. The same rebel who sang Take This Job and Shove It would soon find himself standing trial, sentenced to prison, and fighting to save both his freedom and his career. But the strangest part of the story? The victim survived—and Paycheck later joked about the shooting from the stage, words that would help convict him. This is the unbelievable true story of fame, violence, redemption, and the cold December night when Johnny Paycheck’s outlaw image became reality. #HistoryTok #JohnnyPaycheck #TrueCrime #OhioHistory #CountryMusic

Greenfield was proud to display a sign stating “home of Johnny Paycheck “ until he went to prison, then the sign quickly disappeared

Hillsboro used to be the only town east of the Mississippi with two stockyards inside the corporation limit until Union moved just outside of town

My great grandpa had a gun fight in front of the Highland Hotel. Shot him from across the street, then walked over and shot him again. After he was sent to the Ohio State pen for murder, he was later pardoned by the governor.
My other great grandpa bought the mill on Paint Creek, then ran by my great-uncle Don Murphy. Taught me how to coon hunt, frog gig, and how to set a trot line. Good memories.

Lesson? Never throw the weapon into a creek. Always a river bonus points for tying a small balloon to it so it doesn’t sink to the bottom but never floats to the top
