People say Britain ‘lost’ America, but that’s not the full story. We ran out of money to keep fighting. The war cost £80 million, doubled our national debt, and we were fighting France, Spain and Holland across the whole world. We kept our most valuable territories like Canada, the Caribbean and India, and recognised independence in 1783 because it made financial and strategic sense, not because we were beaten outright.

Boston isn’t just east anglia, it’s Lincolnshire (where Boston gets its name from) Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, south western England slso as well as London.. many of the Mayflower crew were from down the road from me in South Yorkshire
