I can’t believe DollarZone is gone and now a supermarket is over there right by the subway entrance, I used to stay over there in College Glen. I used to get my hair cut up on 40th and Albany across the street from the liquor store and I’d walk over to Farragut to the Dollar General next to the laundromat for the 50 cent chips. I used to get the lunch special from StarSpice all the time. Same order every time - cabbage, jerk chicken, fried rice and stew gravy on the rice. I got shoes from BK Kicks I could’ve sworn were fake 😭, I got my Harley Quinn comics from that comic book store. Some of my family that moved up to NY many years ago live in Flatbush and upstate. Rest of my family stayed down South. I used to come to NY to visit then I’d go back home. I never imagined that I would somehow end up living in NY at any point. My uncle owned my mother’s house and he sold it which led to me moving to NY, staying with him then ending up in a shelter but I still miss the area. It has changed so much in just a few months.
