It’s such a crazy feeling when you’ve been dreaming about a place for years and then you finally get to go, only to realize it somehow exceeds every expectation you had. I’ve been trying to get tickets to the Ghibli Museum for so long, and I still can’t believe I finally made it inside. What makes it even more special is that the museum is one of those rare places that can’t really be experienced through a screen. Photos and videos aren’t allowed inside, so there was no way to fully know what was waiting for me. All I had was years of curiosity and imagination. The first Ghibli film I ever watched was Howl’s Moving Castle, and I remember being completely captivated by it. I had never seen anything quite like it before. The stories felt impossible, the worlds felt alive, and every frame looked like a piece of art. I remember wondering how someone’s mind could possibly create something so imaginative. To this day, I think Hayao Miyazaki has to be a little bit of a genius and a little bit insane. Ghibli films have always been a source of comfort for me. They’re the movies I return to when I need a reminder that there is beauty in ordinary moments. They make simple things feel magical. A meal, a train ride, the sound of rain, a walk through nature. Somehow they make you slow down and appreciate being alive. Walking through the museum felt like stepping into that feeling. Not into the movies themselves, but into the mind of the person who created them. Every room felt thoughtful, playful, and full of wonder. It felt less like a museum and more like an invitation to see the world through a more curious lens. I left feeling so grateful. Grateful that after years of hoping, I finally got to experience it for myself. Grateful for the stories that shaped so much of my teen years to early adulthood. And grateful for this little life that allows me to keep discovering places that remind me how beautiful creativity can be. Some experiences are worth waiting years for.
