Between 1840's and 1880's the majority of the Mexican/ native community in California lived in northern California. After the Mexican-American war had ended many Mexicans in the U.S. were lynched, raped or murdered for their homes, properties and mines. This did not weaken the Mexican people spirit. In fact these atrocities made the Mexican community more united and stronger.

It’s been a family question for decades. My great-great-grandmother, who was Indigenous, had 22 children, and the story was always that none of the girls “survived.”Our family never fully believed that explanation. This seems like one of the most logical theories I’ve come across for what may have happened to them. 😣 For years, I’ve wanted to research and write their stories… one day. But on a lighter note, our family today is overwhelmingly female (strong and powerful), and I like to think that’s a bit of karmic retribution.
