Through Corda, Ripple and other counterparties, it's reasonable to assume small-scale testing has been going on at today's price levels. The point of those trials is to confirm the network can handle settlement at scale before anyone adopts it fully. Formally or informally, the infrastructure has had years to be stress-tested before any public announcement.
