@niya_kingkhari: I will never forgive Russell T Davies for the damage he's done to Black Doctor Who fans. #DoctorWho #RussellTDavies #NcutiGatwa #RTD2 #Whoniverse

Honestly neither of Ncutis seasons were bad. Both had absolute banger episodes. The overall stories were shit and the finales were abysmal

I think it just needs to rest for like 10 years, then moved into a new era like we did in 2005

I was so excited for both Jodie and Ncuti as the Doctor, but the writing was so poor. I feel for them both because they're excellent actors and gave it their best and deserved so much better

Obviously his first era isn’t perfect, but it was so much more progressive than RTD2. Everything post 60th is just baffling.

considering that at that point in production they didn't know what was gonna happen I think they should have ended it mid regeneration, cause it was clear Ncuti leaving was last minute hence why they bought Billie in

I maintain with religious conviction that the damage was done in the Moffat era, because Moffat either doesn't know how or care to write a character arc to save his life, relying on pompous monologues and "high-concept", gimmicks to trick you into thinking there's a story.
RTD1 is about a person on a journey and the people who help him along the way. It's about communities and about loving people first, and the Doctor as a superhuman avatar whose tragedy is that he can never be a part of it for long. Every season he gets a little closer to healing from the trauma established in 2005.
By contrast I genuinely don't believe Matt Smith's Doctor actually cares about anyone. He cares about being seen to care, because that's what Moffat cares about. Capaldi has a little more going on but fundamentally the chain of development is broken and it becomes impossible to understand the character as a developing entity: regeneration reverts to what it was before RTD1, an excuse to have the Doctor be a different character with barely any shared memories and a conveniently wiped out context.
And the shame is that, for people who started in 2005 at least, I'm not sure the magic can be rekindled. You'd need to restart effectively completely, but we've already done that, covered all the ground you'd expect.

Both Jodie and Ncuti could have been great Doctors. They just didn’t know what to do with them.

Ever since the show came back its been really hit and miss. Even under RTD’s first time as showrunner. I think a large part of the problem was that it was in the hands of fanboys. Even with the hit and miss nature of his first three series, at least there was a clear through line with the stories. The characters were consistent, and interesting enough to carry the show through the patchy parts of each series.

a rational person will blame the writing and not the actor. the writing has been going down hill since the end of the 12th doctor

Ncuti and Jodie were done dirty w dw they shouldve explored themes of racism and sexism and show how its different to what the doctor has ever been used to and the struggles as hes not used to not being able to just freely move through any time period or planet. The writing for them were terrible they were let down so badly I loved Ncuti but the writing jesus. And no time in 8 eps to build up real deep character, storyline, leading up to a finale, not nostalgiabaiting just some fresh ideas and exploration ugh im so sad they did them so bad

At this point I think the new showrunner could pull “it was all a dream”, bring back Ncuti and completely get away with it

Ncuti Gatwa killed the show! He put in a perfunctory performance and didn’t care about the role

Modern use of woke doesn't express what people are really trying to say, which is why people contradict the use so much. What people are really trying to say is, it's put political talking points ahead of good writing.

I've been saying that Gatwa had the best potential but for someone who was the Doctor he didn't have much time as a primary focus in season 1 (I haven't seen season 2).
I genuinely believe if he was given more screen focus and writing that he never would've left because all he was dealing with was racist hatred for being in the show and then dealing with something that should've been great for his career just being a sidelined character.
