Eight years ago, my dad took his life. Somehow, it’s been eight years… and somehow, it still feels like yesterday. My dad and I were incredibly close. We saw the world the same way, and losing him changed me forever. Heartbreaking doesn’t even begin to describe it. There were moments when I truly didn’t know how I would ever move forward. And a part of me never did. A part of me carries a deep sadness everyday. I was engaged for three years, and if I’m being honest, part of that was because getting married meant facing something I had spent years trying not to think about: walking into one of the biggest days of my life without my dad beside me. Every wedding I attended reminded me that one day it would be my turn and he wouldn’t be there. That was a reality I never imagined I’d have to accept. When our wedding day finally came, I wanted to make sure he was still part of it. I found little ways to honor him throughout the day… small reminders that although he wasn’t there physically, his love, his lessons, and the person he helped shape were with me in every moment.(and I’d like to give a shoutout to my mom cause she spent hour writing those names in those stones) Grief doesn’t disappear. It changes. You learn to carry it, and somehow, you also learn to carry joy alongside it. Dad, I missed you in every moment that day. But I hope I made you proud. 🤍
