This is how you could grow new brain cells all the way to age 80 and beyond according to the latest research. Over the last decades there has been an active debate as to whether or not humans are capable of growing new brain cells into adulthood. However, several new studies have demonstrated evidence that we not only may be able to grow new brain cells, but specifically grow them in the brain’s memory center, the hippocampus. According to research published in 2026 that looked at brain samples from deceased donors, there is evidence for ongoing maturation of new brain cells in the hippocampus all the way till age, 80 and beyond, and in people with excellent memory, there seems to be more of this maturation than in people with Alzheimer’s. Other research suggests that lifestyle factors may play a role, with things like alcohol associated with issues in neurogenesis pathways especially in certain populations. Sources: 1. Human hippocampal neurogenesis in adulthood, ageing and Alzheimer’s disease 2. Human adult hippocampal neurogenesis is shaped by neuropsychiatric disorders, demographics, and lifestyle-related factors
