Kuwaiti-Pakistani businessman Muizz Ahmed Mirza has bought English non-league football club Plymouth Parkway FC through his international education company, MEC Study Group. Plymouth Parkway, founded in 1988, play at Bolitho Park and currently compete in the Southern League Premier Division South, the seventh tier of English football. The club sit four divisions below their city neighbours Plymouth Argyle. Mirza outlined an ambitious plan to take Plymouth Parkway into professional football. “My dream is within the next 10 years to see this club reach the EFL,” he said. Mirza said the new ownership would seek to make Parkway a full-time football club within the next 12 to 18 months, while investing in its academy, infrastructure and stadium facilities. “The plan’s there,” he added. The Kuwaiti-Pakistani businessman said the club would also develop educational programmes designed to give students opportunities to play competitive football while learning about the management and commercial operation of a football club. Plymouth Parkway chairman Mark Russell previously told BBC Sport that discussions with Mirza had revealed a “genuine opportunity” for the club. He said Mirza’s business experience and international university network could help Parkway strengthen its operations and reach new audiences. Mirza has said his priority will be to protect Plymouth Parkway’s history, identity and relationship with its supporters while building the commercial foundations required to take the club higher through the English football pyramid. The new owner now faces the task of developing the club’s playing structure and facilities as Parkway pursue the long-term objective of reaching the English Football League.
