@shelter_ugolyok_9: We’ve been given something rare right now…a second chance window. With the recent new world screwworm outbreak concerns and the resulting pause/closure of live equine export at the border, the flow out of the pens has flat stopped. And while the situation is complicated and temporary, it has created something we don’t often get in this work: time. Time to step in; Time to reach them before the final step; Time to change outcomes! And it feels like a quiet preview of what so many of us hope for with future protections like the SAFE Act; a system where fewer equines end up in crisis pipelines in the first place, and more are given a real chance at life instead of a final destination to an inhumane ending. But what matters most right now is this moment. This is the moment to show up! To prove what collective action looks like. To demonstrate that when the doors narrow, we don’t look away…we lean in. Because there are still equines sitting in holding pens at auction houses who need someone willing to say “not this one.” Our first save in this unexpected window is a palomino mare we’re calling “Scarlet Rein”. She is partially blind. She is quiet in the way horses get when the world has asked too much of them. She is worthy and in a world where the border isn’t closed, she would have been gone already. But she is here; Still standing; Still waiting; Still alive in the exact moment where everything shifted just enough for someone to reach her. That someone is US. So we’re taking that chance seriously.
