🧡 This simple movement became the first step in my TMJ dysfunction recovery. After years of severe TMJ dysfunction, one of the biggest changes I made was gently taking my jaw out of full retraction and allowing it to rest around 2–4 mm further forward. This was just one part of the conservative biomechanical approach that eventually helped me recover. I didn’t force it. I built up to it gradually. At first, my jaw would shake, fatigue and sometimes my symptoms would temporarily increase because my muscles weren’t used to supporting this position. I slowly increased the time I spent there, never pushed through discomfort, and over time it became my normal resting posture while talking, eating and going about daily life. For some people, simply understanding this movement gives them a completely new perspective. For me, though, it was only one piece of the puzzle. Recovery also involved understanding joint loading, muscle involvement, jaw movement, posture and the everyday habits that were affecting my TMJs. Today, I teach these same conservative biomechanical principles through my TMJ Decompression Method, where I’ve been fortunate to support thousands of people worldwide living with TMJ pain and dysfunction. If you’d like a more detailed breakdown with image guidance, demonstrations, progression, safety cues and FAQs, that’s exactly why I created it. This isn’t medical advice, and TMJ disorders aren’t one-size-fits-all. I’m simply sharing the biomechanical principles that helped me recover after years of severe TMJ dysfunction, trying almost everything apart from surgery. I only wish someone had explained these concepts to me sooner. 🧡 Let me know how this movement feels for you, and remember - go gently.
