@yusho87: There’s so much more nuance to this that I am missing. I didn’t even bring up the beauty supply stores. Asian businesses that make their entire revenue from the black community, yet treats the community like garbage. So a boycott like this, really only hurts their pockets. A lot of Asians aren’t even aware of this as well. EOD , I really hope that in the future communities come together. But rn, I feel like it’s best to let people grieve, there’s a time and place to bring up think pieces to stymie a natural reaction to an innocent kid losing his life. Avoiding tragedies like this, benefit both communities. And in a way that’s how I feel like I’m standing up for my community.

Stop me if I’m wrong but Part of specifically a lot of Asian American culture is to boycott black so I’m not sure what all the ruckus is about it’s pretty digusting for you guys to have a negative opinion on it at all as if you don’t know what goes in your own culture

You get it. Black people have already really stopped going out of their way to shop at beauty supplies and nail shops due to poor treatment and racial biases. It just wasn’t talked about. It does become harder when some neighborhoods only have chicken and fish sold by Asians, but black American people with choices have already patronized Asian businesses less along with other main chains like target and Walmart for their DEI response. How is this different?

To me the asian community only cared as soon as black people went out saying that they were going to boycott. Just as you said another kid was shot unjustifiably and the fact that most asians online spoke up about how it was unjust when they saw people were going to protest. It didn’t feel genuine but rather a way to protect themselves and their community. If nobody ever said anything about protesting would the asian community still care enough to speak up about it?

What Chow did was intentional and we have to stay away from the Asian community to save our own lives as well. The sad part about it is that the Asian community didn’t stand with the BLK community nor did they call out the injustice and BLK people have always loved and supported their community, but the support and love isn’t the same. At this point, it’s better to just part ways. Respectfully. 🙏

Not only that plenty of Asian people were victim blaming a child that was hunted down.

It’s not a boycott it is a wealth transfer. A boycott implies that this will end, we intend to keep the black dollar within the black community.

Calling Black Americans racist for choosing to support Black-owned businesses misses the point. No one calls it racist when communities support their own. We see Chinatowns, Little Italys, Koreatowns, and other ethnic business districts across America. Those communities understand the importance of circulating dollars within their neighborhoods and supporting local entrepreneurs. What many people are calling a boycott, I see as a wealth transfer — a conscious decision to reinvest our money into Black-owned businesses, Black families, and Black communities. Every dollar spent is a vote for the future you want to build. This isn’t about hating anyone. It’s about ownership, economic empowerment, and creating opportunities within our own communities. Supporting your community isn’t racism. It’s self-determination.

Is it really collective punishment? Asians have never spent their $$ in Black businesses. Also, it’s not a boycott (boycotts come with a date or preferred outcome), this is permanent. We’re good.
