Skopje, North Macedonia 🇲🇰 We've made our way to Skopje, the capital and largest city of North Macedonia. Home to roughly a third of the country's population, Skopje is the political, economic, and cultural center of the nation. With a history stretching back thousands of years, the city has been shaped by empires, earthquakes, wars, and rapid modernization, creating a place where old and new exist side by side. Walking through Skopje, you'll find Ottoman-era architecture, socialist-era buildings, modern developments, and countless monuments all within the same city. The Vardar River divides much of the city, while landmarks like the Stone Bridge, Old Bazaar, and the city's many public squares give visitors plenty to explore. One of the things that stands out most about Skopje is the contrast. Historic neighborhoods sit alongside newer developments, traditional cafes share streets with modern shopping centers, and influences from across the Balkans, the Ottoman Empire, and Europe can be seen throughout the city.
