I never tire of watching Louis Farrakhan passionately and coherently correct Mike Wallace after he makes an ignorant and hypocritical statement about corruption in Nigeria.  I think that we are living in an age where people are being coddled and applauded for their willful ignorance. They are so afraid of learning the truth and being wrong, that they take correction as an insult when actually it’s a form of friendship. The truth is not your enemy. It it is, then you are living a lie. I think about this exchange often and usually when I see it, it’s published with the last part edited out - where they laugh with each other. I think this is the most important part. You can see that even after taking a beating, Mike Wallace is not offended. He’s in fact, looking at Louis Farrakhan in admiration of his passion. He seems to understand and respect him more for calling out his hypocrisy, which is what a friend is supposed to do. People are always trying to tell liberals that it’s our passion, that is our weakness. In fact, it is our strength. This dialogue helps us understand that you don’t need to dress up the truth just to make it palatable for others. Just say it. Stop coddling adults. Tell them the truth, as brutally or as beautifully as possible so you can help them see things in a different way and maybe it will shift their entire perspective. Perspective matters because we are ignorant of each other’s experiences. Share yours so you can give others the knowledge and the understanding they need to make the right decisions for themselves and in consideration of others. This is called love. Correct your friends. #truth #friendship #perspective #america #Love #wisdom #politics
